Coaching at the Ray McLain Camp

Joel, in boat, goodYesterday I accepted an invitation from Wausau Whitewater to help coach at the Ray McLain camp on 23-27 Jun leading into Age Group Nationals on the weekend of 28-29 Jun. I am really looking forward to this as it should be a laid back chance to both coach and train in a low pressure and fun environment. For anybody interested in attending, Wausau Whitewater has a few pdf documents available with more information:

For my own training, the opportunity to work on skills on slightly less difficult whitewater is never a bad thing. Last year, attending Cathy's camp in Durango over Thanksgiving week proved to be an outstanding opportunity for progression even though there was only about 400cfs in the Animas at the time. My hope is this week in Wausau will offer the same opportunity, to focus on skill development in a fashion not readily facilitated by the difficult whitewater in Charlotte.

This week in Wausau will offer the opportunity to spend at least a few days concentrating on something else I love, coaching. Ever since the summer of 2005, I have not had the opportunity to devote myself full time to coaching. There have been times when Cathy is holding a development camp where I have helped out while balancing the requirements of work and my own training. This week in Wausau, all I will have to worry about is getting in my own sessions and coaching. With only two priorities to balance for a week instead of three plus, I am really looking forward to this opportunity.
