Teaching in Fort Stewart, GA and training with Gators...

Zastera Bala on my rental carFort Stewart, Gerogia, it is not entirely land, nor entirely water. Whatever it is, there are a lot of trees on it and the Army loves to practice artillery and small arms around here. Charged with the task of managing all the timber on this Army Post is the forestry services, who are updating their GIS software from 10-plus year old software to the latest and greatest. As part of this migration, they need to learn how to use their new toys. This is where I come in. I get to teach them how to use their new software. Thus, during the week of 24-28 Sep, I am tasked with just this, teaching the Fort Stewart Foresty Division how to use their new GIS toys.

Since Fort Stewart is driving distance from Charlotte, instead of hopping a plane off to somewhere, I simply picked up a rental car and headed out. Since driving, my downriver boat came along for the ride for taking advantage of the opportunity to train on flatwater. Last night while doing an interval workout just south of Savannah in true blackwater, I experienced an unusual source of motivation. While ripping off about a 80 stroke per minute cadence through a four minute interval, about halfway through the interval, well into oxygen debt, a piece of the water about four feet long moved, and a huge animal hastily swam out of the way...an alligator. Thankfully, this was the extent of the interaction. Still, it was enough to convince me to stay further out in the channel, away from the shore...and gators.

Yes Laura, it is another picture of a car.
